hawaiian retreat The custom entry gate to the home acts as a threshold between the organic landscaping and the linear modern architecture of the home. The energy flow and lava flows also passed through this threshold, with organic lava forms at the exterior and cut lava benches and walls extending out from the structure. Water was also an integral element, flowing through the organic lava tubes, past the entry gate, where it transformed into a linear runnel culminating in a rectangular pond at the center of an interior courtyard. Other water elements, such as the spa, pool, and fountain were designed to connect visually to the courtyard pond and ocean beyond.
